Carlee's Italy Study Abroad Trip

My name is Carlee Balzer. I am a freshman at Ferris State University majoring in Biology/Pre-Optometry and minoring in Psychology. Currently I am a member of Ferris State Univeristy Honors Program, Honors Programming Board, Pre-optometry Club, MYPLACE for International Students, 4H, and Michigan Trail Riders Association.
In May 2015 I plan to travel across Italy for a Study Abroad program through Ferris State University. We will be traveling to Rome, Capri, Florence, and Venice. While there I will be earning 9 college credits: 3 English, 3 Biology, and 3 Italian Language credits. Taking these courses over the summer are going to help me get ahead in my college career and can save me a lot of time.
A trip like this is not cheap, especially now that tuition costs are rising. This trip will cost $7000. That will inlcude my tuition, the program fee, books/supplies, passport, insurance, lodging, transportation, etc. I come from a low income family so this type of money is not easy to come by. An opportunity like this does not come around very often and I would love to be able to step out of my comfort zone and see the world. Coming from a small town in the middle of Michigan there isn't much of a chance to get to know other cultures. Which is why study abroad is so important to me. I want to be able to gain new experiences and grow as an individual. My goal is to raise this money to be able to make my dream of studying abroad come true.
