#ExposeStopPatriarchy

Texans are busy. Like, extremely busy. Clinics are closing en mass across the state. The last thing activists need is to spend time investigating and discrediting a NY-based group using their struggle to promote a hidden agenda. I love my friends in Texas! They're badass heroes working to take back their rights and save real people's lives & I'm taking their co-opting really personally.

ICYMI Stop Patriarchy is headed to Texas to, well, we aren't sure what exactly because they refuse to answer questions about where the nearly $40,000 (and counting) they've raised is going and how they plan to teach Texans about protesting -- as though Texans need that lesson:

Unlike SP, I've been invited. So since it is primarily coastal residents funding SP's appropriatively titled "Freedom Ride," let's see if some coastal allies can chip in to discredit this group known not nearly widely enough for being anti-LGBTQ, anti-sex worker rights, anti-agency, Civil Rights appropriating, intransigent on working with local activists and OH RIGHT -- run by a patriarch named Bob. Here's Bob:

Mainstream outlets like New York Mag are flooding SP with positive coverage, so it's no wonder I can't get a pitch picked up to investigate them fully. (Outlets that are into it are progressive and under funded.) And since the Dallas Observer stole my first post on SP, they aren't going to pay me to come. Which means we're going to have to do it.

Find out why a unified group of organizations and activists have asked SP to stay home & sign on as their ally: United Statement in Opposition to Stop Patrirarchy. Then, if you can, fund my investigation to keep these umbrella activists from branching out into your community. We have limited resources in pro-choice organizing; there's no room in the reproductive rights movement for those who would divert tens of thousands of dollars annually for photo-ops that support a dude named Bob and his "Revolutionary Communist Party."

Monetary Breakdown: Texas is a large state & SP is traveling a sizeable chunk. Depending on support, I can report on more of their trip as well as visit the clinics and communities affected by the impending September 1 wave of closures. Airfare gets me there; continuting support keeps me there into the first week of September.
UPDATE! I've had an offer that makes it possible to cover the RGV leg without paying for travel. Texans are amazing. My total is updated to take out car rental with a small addition for the time I've spend at urgent care. (MedSpring is amazing; if you have one, use them.) If you follow me on social media, you already have the play-by-play. Needless to say a literal pain in my ass isn't keeping me from covering the figurative one!
Roundtrip airfare NYC to Austin (w/insurance): $701.00
**Car rental: $518 + $289 (UGH, more insurance!) = $807.00
**Austin to San Antonio (160 miles round trip + regional): 25 mpg @ $3.40/gallon = $27.20
**Austin to Los Fresnos (700 miles round trip + regional): 25 mpg @ $3.40/gallon = $136.00
Total gas = $160-$175
Eating and such things are nice: $500.00 (for the month/largely on the go)
I don’t need to fund hotels or the travel around Austin because Texans are amazing about hospitality. SO SO AMAZING.
Amended Total: $1650.00 to do the full expose.

I will increase my headline/listed goal as funding comes in with updates on what is already being covered and what can be done with the next chunk. If SP can raise $40,000 to do nothing, let's see if we can pull together 6% of that to end their divisive tactics. If more than enough rolls in I won't just hang on to it; I have ideas about what else we can do to highlight REAL activist work around the country.
