Help me get to Chicago!
Hello friends, family, and anybody else who has stumbled upon this page. My name is Jessica Pearl Salas. I am born and raised Denver native. Being from Denver is something that I am truly proud of. I think it's the greatest place in the entire world, and I have been to many parts of this world. Denver is amazing because of my community here. Anyone who knows my family will tell you they are the best in the world. Anyone who knows my friends will tell you they are the best in the world. Never have I felt so much love in one place, and that is why this will always be home.
Last year I had the great fortune of being accepted to The School of the Art Insitute of Chicago for my master's in film. This is one of the top art intitutions in the country, and I was in shock that I was even considered. Unfortunely due to financial contraists I had to defer for the year. During that year I found other methods to help myself pay through school because tutition and living costs alone come to about $50,000 a year. I worked very hard and have been able to cover that great expense through scholarships, savings, and loans.
The reason for wanting to get my masters is so I have the credentials I need to teach at a colegiate level, and my main hope is to open up a Denver based non profit for current musians,dancers, artisits, and filmmakers to be able to record, shoot films, and use space to create their art. I have witnessed so many of my friends exploding with talent and there is no reason at all why these people should not have the opportunity to do what they need to make their art. I want to provide that for anybody who is looking for it. The second part would be, the only payment required of these artist is help the larger Denver youth community. I grew up in a neighborhood where the arts wasn't really a standard because of how much the cost is to keep your child immersed in it. It's a lot of money to take dance classes, it's a lot of money to have music lessons, it's a lot of money for painting classes. What I want is to ensure that any child that is interested in the arts will have the opportunity to do so, at no cost.
The next step was getting to Chicago which I had made plans with my mother and other family to drive since it would be the least expensive and the most convient for me. The plan was to leave this Thursday July 31st, as my lease starts on August 1st. Well in one day that plan has literally fallen apart. The car just isn't working, and asking any of my friends, and family to take time off from work is something that I just cannot bring myself to do. So here I am less than few days before I am about the embark on this journy and I'm stuck. I have researced my options and as far as total costs to me a Uhaul moving pod, and a one way flight will be my cheapest method of moving. This comes to about $1,500 total. Anyone who knows me, knows just how difficult it is for me to ask anyone for anything. It's not in my nature. I have been raised to work hard, but I find myself in this very difficult position. So anyone out there who has taken this much time to read this. I need your help. I am so close to this dream and I could not bear to watch it fall apart here at the end. I need one last thing from my community so I can come back and better it!
