A new beginning

I grew up in a middle class family that always instilled good morals and values in me. I graduated hair school and went on to pursue a career to become a top hairdresser with hopes of doing hair and make up for fashion shows, film and television. After a car accident leaving me defeated and unable to continue the long and strenuous hours on my feet as a hairdresser and low payment from insurance disability, I veered way off path and ended up with an 8 year sentence for drug trafficking. I never imagined this is where I would be for the last years of my twenties. Instead of letting it all break me down I have chosen to use my mistakes to my advantage to create a new beginning for myself. I have lost many things because of my poor choices and I am trying to rebuild relationships and respect within the community. Although I can never change what I have done I am trying to move forward in a positive direction. I know most of you won't take a second look or even think of helping me, but I will never get to where i want to be without taking chances. Instead of trying to run and hide I have faced the many challenges that have come along with my choices head on. I also took every opportunity that has come my way while being incarcerated. Obtaining my high school diploma, taken college courses, tutoring women in ESL, attending a 6 month work release at community justice initiatives, given speeches for a local youth program & high school about my mistakes deterring them from going down the same path as I did, as well as employment programs, CPR first aid and other courses offered in the institution. The funds that I hope to raise  will allow me to go back to school to pursue a career in medical esthetics.
