A Paraplegic Dog Named Snitch

Donation protected
Snitch is a deeply loved 8 year old Dachshund Pit Bull mix.
The past 2 weeks have been the hardest weeks of Snitch's entire life. Snitch began limping on Tuesday July 15th. We took him straight to the vet, and we were told that he most likely strained a muscle in his back. So we brought Snitch home to rest for a couple weeks, but within 24 hours he only got worse. Both of his legs had stopped functioning, and the next day he was diagnosed paraplegic from the ribs down.

We had to make a very, very hard decision. Snitch has had an incredibly happy life with us, but permanent injuries like this can greatly affect the quality of the dog's life. At the recommendation of Snitch's neurologist, we took him home one last time to say our goodbyes, and schedule his euthanasia.

Snitch has traveled to about 15 states in his lifetime, and he's made quite a few friends along the way. We made Thursday a special day for him, and had all his friends and family come by to say goodbye. There were a lot of tears in our household this week, because saying goodbye to a dog this special is harder than we could ever put into words. His aunts, uncles, brothers, and sisters all came to see him off, and we gave him what we thought were his last meals.

Well on Friday we took Snitch to his original vet, Dr. Patino, here in Orlando. We wanted to make sure we were doing the right thing by putting him down, and that we has thought everything through. Dr. Patino saw Snitch, and right away the doctor had this look on his face. The doctor said that there was a look in my eyes, and a look in Snitch's eyes that told him we were not ready. He saw that snitch is a special dog, and said for only 2 days into paraplegia, Snitch seemed exceptionally hopeful and calm. Dr. Patino recommended that we bring Snitch home for a couple weeks to observe him and see how he adjusts. Within 2 days, Snitch was able to walk on a donated wheelchair. He's started to perk up and come out of the initial shock of what's happened.

We also learned that Snitch is no longer in any pain, which is a very convenient thing about paralysis. Snitch is still pretty confused and scared, but to say he's suffering isn't accurate. Snitch is 100% healthy from the ribs up, and at only 8 years old, he could easily live another 5 happy years with us.

So we have made the decision to keep my son here and give him a chance to adapt to this new situation. It's very, very tough for all of us to learn this new way of life, but it only gets easier when you see him cheer up every day and give it everything he's got.

Snitch's vet bills were outrageously expensive. We have literally drained all of our savings after just a few vet visits. Just like you and I, Snitch's quality of life is greatly dependent on how much money you have. With the right medications, equipment, home modifications, and therapies, Snitch can continue to live an incredible life. Being a full time educator, I work 100% from home, which makes this a lot easier on everyone. Snitch can finish his days out in a one- story Florida home, with his parents and friends.

There are plenty of smaller things that Snitch needs. Snitch will most likely be paralyzed for the rest of his life, so we need a wheelchair for him that is custom made. As you can see, his donated wheelchair works alright for now, but it's wobbly and a little too small for him. Snitch also would benefit from physical therapy, which can help him gain control of his bladder and bowels. He also needs special food to make using the bathroom an easier process for both of us. Any extra money that is made will be set aside for future vet visits, special needs doggie daycare, and continued home modifications so he can move freely around our house.

If you would like to Snitch and I in our time of need, and improve this guy's quality of life, this is the place to do it! And if you can't donate to help Snitch, we completely understand. But I will ask if you can do Snitch one favor. Please, please share this video in any way you can. Spreading the word about this incredible guy's story is just as helpful as donating. With the right funding, Snitch's life can one day be almost back to normal.

Thank you for watching this video. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you for caring about us and and our small family. We make a pretty special team, and I can't thank you all enough for supporting and encouraging us.
