Housing Services Mid Michigan

Housing Services Mid Michigan has been awarded the opportunity to work with the AmeriCorps organization. This will provide a much needed part time staff member for our agency for a one year period. The Americorps program will award a participant a living stipend totaling $6,265 for HT, paid bi-weekly over the course of the service year, and upon successful completion of the term, an education award $2,865 which can be used towards qualified student loans.

The cost to our agency for this program will be $3000. We need YOUR help to cover this cost. With this $3000.00 we will be able to hire an AmeriCorps member for 900 hours of work within our community over the next year. We are a non profit agency and coming up with the $3000 match is difficult. All donations from this request will be used specifically by Housing Services Mid Michigan to fund a part time Americorps staff member for a one year period. 

Housing Services Mid Michigan works with homeless individuals and families locate housing by providing information, referrals, and advocacy. As a lead agency for Michigan’s Housing Choice Vouchers, we are looking for an enthusiastic AmeriCorps member to assist voucher holders maintain housing and assist those applying complete paperwork. This position also includes activities like education, follow-up support, and coordination of our Project Resource Connect Event held in January. 

Americorps Member Responsibilities:

*Assist with intakes to assess the housing needs of that client
*Provide information, referrals, and assist with paperwork to individuals that are homeless who hold a Housing Choice Voucher to ensure their housing stability
*Assist clients  in obtaining a Housing Choice Voucher by verifying their homelessness
*Help maintain the waiting list and applications for Kingston Place Apartments
*Enter data into HMIS computer system and maintain case notes in paper files
*Create/update lists of available housing for the clients to choose from
*Act as the primary Coordinator of our Project Resource Connect event;
*Assist the agencies with implementing the CoC’s 10 year plan, including outreach to the landlords and the community and contribute to the plan’s review team
Coordinate a task group for the creation of a series of Homeless Prevention presentations for our clients by recruiting volunteers
