I am raising money to attend Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School, a four day master class personally taught by Oscar-nominated film director Werner Herzog. He has directed more than sixty films, including the seminal 'Aguirre, The Wrath of God', 'Fitzcarraldo', 'Grizzly Man' and 'Rescue Dawn' starring Christian Bale.
The seminar takes place in Los Angeles, August 22nd – 25th, 2014. This 'film school' is like no other, rather, in Werner's own words: “The Rogue Film School is about a way of life. It is about a climate, the excitement that makes film possible. It will be about poetry, films, music, images, literature.” http://www.roguefilmschool.com/about.asp
I was selected along with 65 others in a very competitive process. This is a rare opportunity as the Rogue Film School does not occur every year but at irregular intervals. The last one was in 2012. Another one may not happen.
Attending the Rogue Film School will help me move forward with my Sci-Fi feature film project 'converGENCE'. 'converGENCE' is about a brilliant female Astrophysicist and Cosmologist of Haitian descent who makes a groundbreaking scientific discovery that also reveals a more sinister force in the universe that threatens all mankind. In October 2013, with this feature film I was a Semi-Finalist in “Project Stargazer”, a film development program created in a collaboration between NASA and the Hollywood Black Film Festival.
During the seminar I will be immersed in the nuts and bolts of guerrilla filmmaking in order to get 'converGENCE' made. Learning from one of the premier filmmakers in the world will make me an even better and more confident filmmaker.
I just found out days ago that I was accepted into Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School. I applied months ago but did not hear from them. In the interim I applied to and attended the VONA/Voices (Voices of Our Nation) Writing Workshops for writers of color in Berkeley at the end of June. Pleasantly surprised by my acceptance, I now have to secure my place in the program.
I need $1500 to attend, and I need it by July 31st. If 150 people donated only $10.00 each I would reach my goal!
Because of the quick turnaround, I am requesting your financial support. If you are one of the people who supported my VONA/Voices campaign, thank you so much for donating! If it's possible that you can give again that would be awesome and I would be eternally grateful for your generosity. If you didn't hear about my VONA campaign or were not able to give at that time, here is another opportunity to support my work.
