I am going to be brutally honest, because this is a serious cry for help.
My family and I need a vacation more desperately then I can explain. I will do my best though. As a family we have not been on a real vacation in over two years.
More importantly, my husband, Chris was recently re-diagnosed with PTSD. Chris was retired from the Air Force at 16 years of service in May of 2013 as a 100% disabled veteran. Our finances went to hell, because he did not get paid for nearly three months. When he did get paid, according to the VA, he was ‘overpaid’. They did not contact him to collect this debt until February 2014, when his mother was dying of cancer. Her death has hurt Chris deeply and caused the PTSD to re-emerge. In May 2014, the VA took his entire disability check as well as June’s payment. We are behind on both our vehicles and our house is in foreclosure. We are slowly crawling back out of the financial hole we got buried in, but we will not be stable for months.
Trying to keep my small family (I have a son of 5 years of age) together and surviving has been a struggle. I have had to make contingency plans on what to do if my husband commits suicide. I am exhausted: mentally, physically, and emotionally. I know this does not even compare to what my husband is feeling.
My family needs this chance to get out of Las Vegas and take a deep breath. Even if it’s only for a three day weekend, I will take it. Chris says Las Vegas looks like Afghanistan, where he was deployed multiple times. He hates it here. He’s managing because we have no money to move. We have not done anything fun as a whole family in months. See this picture I posted, it’s the last time we went on vacation in the summer of 2012. I haven’t seen my husband smile like that in over 6 months.
So please, have a heart. For a wounded warrior who has become a recluse and lost faith in humanity, and for a mother who is two breaths away from losing her sanity as well-- HELP. Anything. I’m not asking for much. I’m only asking for a chance for my family to remember how to smile together again. Every penny of this will be going to our vacation fund. Nothing else.
