Help Simba See!

Donation protected
After the tragic deaths of our two beloved dogs Gus and Manny this past winter, our family decided to adopt a new dog from a local adoption agency in April of this year.

Meet Simba!
A fine male Chihuahua about three years old, Simba had previously been given up to a rescue organization twice.

After meeting him and playing with him, we thought he would be a fine match for our other fur friends (we have 4 cats and 3 other dogs - all adoptees or rescues). And after a small period of adjustment (like 15 minutes!) he fit right in to our crazy house.

Simba sleeps on the bed with the girls (and the cats)!  He loves to run around the house looking for opportunies for mischief (and he easily finds them with Lili) and he loves to play fight with Jobu the cat, his arch nemesis!

Recently we took Simba to the vet for a problem with his paw, and during the examination, the vet informed us that Simba also had a problem with his vision.  We followed up by taking him to a veternarian opthalmologist where tests revealed he suffers from hereditary juvenile cataracts.  The doctor said that Simba already has a 70% vision loss and is probably only seeing blurry objects at the edge of his vision at this point. He can't even see the face of the kid that loves him best, Lili.

The surgery for cataract removal comes at a cost of $4,000 for both eyes. Thankfully, the White Rock Rescue organization is also working with us to raise funds for half the cost of the surgery. Still, at a cost of $2,000 for the surgery alone, the price of restoring Simba's vision is high. We have a family of four, plus the 7 other adopted/rescued animals that require care. This kind of surgery expense is hard for us to manage.  There will also be expenses for follow-up care that we cannot estimate at this time.

Simba still has a long life ahead of him and the opthalmologist says that Simba is an excellent candidate for this surgery.  Simba does have some minor behavioral issues related to his deteriorating eyesight - for example if you wake him up in the morning he will sometimes bite your hand because he can't make out who you are.  (I do the same thing myself, and I can't blame it on my vision, but I digress!)  We would love to be able to help him see better and enjoy a full life of messing with the cats, sleeping with Lili and begging for scraps of food.

Our goal is to raise $2,000 to help offset the costs of Simba's treatment and recovery.  Every dollar raised will be directly applied to his surgery and/or veternarian bills.

We appreciate you reading this far and thank you for considering to help this fine little guy.
