In 2016, Brunswick School Department was able to pilot a pre-kindergarten education program called Cub Camp.
The program was designed and implemented by Coffin Elementary School teachers, behavioral interventionists, and administration. Its goal was to bring students who scored on the lower end of kindergarten screening measures up to target. These screening measures included social, academic, and motor skill sets.
The program lasted 5 weeks, and IT WORKED!! Students showed immense growth over the five week period, becoming confident, socially competent, comfortable with fundamental reading and math, and displaying refined motor skills at completion. Cub Camp teachers say the transformation was amazing to witness as students blossomed into successful learners.
This year, due to budget cuts, Brunswick School Department cannot fund the program, so a few concerned community members gathered to find the $20,000 in our community!
These children are ours, yours and the community’s!! They are our NUMBER ONE RESOURCE and deserve an opportunity to start their academic careers on solid footing.
A child can attend 5 weeks of camp for $500. This is the best piece of Dropout Prevention we can provide, as early intervention shows long term results.
We need your support to keep this vital program running and keep our Brunswick community educated, engaged, and enriched!
