Hey yall!
We’re Broken Alley Theatre. We’re a troupe of actors, directors and other artists in Austin, Texas, and we’ve come a long way since we got our start (thanks to Kickstarter!) in 2013. We’ve performed in student co-ops and parks; we’ve done dramas, comedies, one-acts and full-lengths.
This summer, we want to put up our biggest, most ambitious production yet — The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later by Moisés Kauffman and others. 10 Years Later is the sequel to the groundbreaking play The Laramie Project, returning to the town a decade after its prequel to examine the lasting emotional impact of Matthew Shepard’s murder. MJ Alexander Driscoll (or, Ms. M.A.D), will be returning to direct the production. MJ directed one of our first productions, The Hands of Its Enemy, and we could not be more thrilled to have her back as a director.
We’re also planning on using a big new space for this season: the Ground Floor Theatre on Austin’s East Side. Ground Floor got their start right here on Kickstarter, just like us! They’ve built a great performance space for artists from the ground up, and we are super-excited to be part of Ground Floor’s first year of shows.
In order to make all this a reality, we need your help. We’ve managed to operate Broken Alley for two years on a shoestring budget, supported only by donations from our amazing audience. But for this season, our upfront costs can’t be covered by the funds we’ve got saved up. We need enough money to pay for 3 nights’ royalties of Laramie, a set, and to pay Ground Floor Theatre for the use of their space.
We run Broken Alley as a nonprofit, and all pledges we don’t use for this season will be saved for next. We’ve come so far these past two years, and we can’t wait to see where we’re headed. Help us get there.
