Breast Cancer Research / Cold Caps
Donation protected
After I found out about my breast cancer, my first question was “Will I loose my hair?” As a women hair is often just as important as breast are to our women hood. Women with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy loose their hair as well as their breasts. The Breast Cancer Research Centre WA is trialing a new exciting therapy, cold caps, that offers women a chance to keep their hair whilst receiving chemotherapy. Unfortunately just like all the best things in life this reassure is expensive. Each machine costing around $37000.
But what is Cold Cap Therapy exactly?
Cold cap therapy, involves the use of a special cap, cooled to very cold temperatures, and worn for a period of hours before, during and after each chemotherapy treatment. The cold temperature constricts the blood vessels leading to the hair follicles, reducing the amount of chemo drugs that reach the follicles during the period that the caps are worn, thus preserving the patient’s hair.
All monies raised will be going towards the Cold Cap Therapy Research conducted by the Breast Cancer Research Center WA.
