Help Bahaa help Gaza

Donation protected
Dear friends,

Bahaa Eddin, a highschool friend, is experiencing the bombardments of Gaza together with his family as we speak. Every now and then, I hear from him through Facebook messages, whenever he has access to internet and there is electricity. Every time, I thank god he is still alive.

Bahaa took this picture three days ago of a building being bombed in Gaza.

A few days ago, his family home was bombed. He said this when I talked to him last:

"I went to see my house last night. It's fucked up (...) Now I am staying at my uncles. And it's not safe also. Nowhere is safe in Gaza.(...) You know whats worse? Today I was trying to make an online fundraise and I couldnt because apparently my IP address is from Gaza".

I offered to help setting up the fundraiser. As onlookers, a lot of us are feeling utterly helpless. But money is power, for whatever it is worth.

Bahaa wants to use the money to rebuild houses, his own, and his neighbors.
Just to underline what this means to him, people rallying behind the Gaza civilians and our attempts to support, I quote again:

"I saw the photos of the demonstrations in Sweden. These things give us hope over here.

"I am very happy to hear that is does. Really. Cause we feel helpless".

"Trust me, every small thing means so much to us".

I am in touch with the Palestinian Embassy of Stockholm who will let me know about ways to channel money into Gaza. I have also talked to a Swedish activist currently acting as human shield in Gaza, Fred Ekblad (@fredekblad on twitter). The plan is to use Moneygram or Western Union, but I will await reply from the embassy to make sure this is a viable way and that it works. As soon as I know, which is by tomorrow Friday 18/7, I will update you!

Bahaa is a former Project Coodinator at UNDP Palestinian territory. He has also been involved in International Youth Leadership Conference. He studied at the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy 2004-2006, and did his college degree at Westminster College, MO, USA. He then went on to study Political Science/American Studies at Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg in Germany.

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL INITIATIVE. It is simply a way of trying to reach across borders with what happens to be the only real means of making a difference for us non-decisionmakers in the situation.
