Legal Fees for Nicole and Ewan

Donation protected
Since the initial request for funds a number of things have changed in the case.  The hope was for a quicker review and change to the parenting plan within arbitration.  However, that and a number of other issues have dramatically compounded the situation.  There are extended fees for lawyers and a huge stack of new court fees.

While Nicole and her family have tried to cover these expenses, they have become too much to handle.  If there is anything you can spare, please donate here.  All the monies will be explicitly used for the fees associated with the court case.  If you would like to know more details, please contact Nicole privately, and she will inform you of the details.

I met Nicole Raine a number of years ago, as part of the Hike Team for Team in Training.  She liked to wear black on the trail and had a quirky sense of humor, so we were fast friends.  Over the past years, we have become incredibly close.  I have heard stories upon stories of the issues and heartache the divorce, domestic violence, and custody hearings have caused.

Throughout it all she maintains on optimistic attitude and a positive, loving home environment for Ewan.  While this entire process has been an amazing amount of stress for her, I know for a fact that this battle over the parenting plan has been almost overwhelming.  While trying to continue to handle the situation by herself, she is just not able, and at my and others insistance a lawyer is essential.

She is an amazingly strong and wonderful woman and is forming an energetic, creative, comical, and loving young man.  Please help contribute to the fund so that they can both move on with a much more normal life.  One without the stresses of legal action always looming.  Both Nicole Raine and Ewan deserve it!

Please see Nicole Raine's comments about the situation below:

"We are asking for help with funds help finalize our open legal issues with my ex husband, Ewan's father, which have come about as a result of the Domestic Violence at the end of 2012 and the DV Protection Order which has been in place since spring of 2013.

This includes finalizing the parenting plan which will govern our day to day lives until Ewan turns 18 (a little over 11 years from now), the child support order, and recouping the monies owed for childcare since Oct 2013, most of which remains unpaid.

We are hoping to accomplish this through mediation prior to trial which is set for September.

Having attempted to handle this on my own, battling his lawyer on my own, it is clear that I need help to take care of this properly.  After speaking with several firms the only way I will be able to acquire counsel is with a retainer up front. Currently we are estimating the total costs to get us through mediation for these three issues.

The domestic violence, and subsequent homelessness, followed by the extremely stressful and costly court battles have cost my livelihood, my business, our home, peace of mind, and we are still recovering from all of this. Having the legal issues finished and a functional process in place for the ongoing shared childcare costs will be a huge weight off mentally and will provide us with financial protection going forward.

Off and on we've been going through this since Ewan was 10 months old, which will be a solid 6 years as of next month. We ask for your support in helping us to put this to rest - that it be done right, and done well, so that we may be safe, protected, and that this truly be handled in Ewan's best interest... and move on.

If 100 of you chip in a night-out's worth, we'll have it. If half of you chip in a really nice night out's worth, we'll be there even sooner.

Our heartfelt thanks can never adequately be expressed. Beyond that we are offering a few incentives to show our gratitude.

$40 An invite to our celebration party when it's all done.

$75 Special thank you card/picture drawn for you by Ewan and Raine

$100 Fine art print of one of 5 images - you choose.

$150 Raine will Photoshop you into something weird and wonderful. Probably meme worthy. Possibly with rainbows. No promises made about your dignity."
