In 2011 my family was thrown into a world of chaos in the form of a 35 inch blood clot in my left leg. As the primary breadwinner of my famly, we saw unprecedented financial hardship. Still, through diligence, the charity of family and close friends, and piece meal freelance work, we kept afloat and I was able to keep up with the bills and pay off all of my medical debt as it arrived. The only drawback is that this period of time left no room for savings and washed away the nest egg that I did have.
The blood clot didn't happen in a vacuum... It caused vascular issues that required a series of surgeries. It exacerbated a cardiac issue that would send me to the ER, out of necessity, over a dozen times in 3 years (each time with all the bills that accompany such a trip). In the past four years I have had six surgeries. I FINALLY have a clean bill of health but it came a price.
The couple of years spent out of work hurt my resume and made it difficult to get a job... so after years working as a Federal Contract Specialist, my wages were cut to those of a waitress and then to a receptionist before finding a job in my career field.
Things were looking up as of October. I had a new job back in my career field, a couple maxed out credit cards, and a very manageable group of medical bills... The week before my insurance kicked in, I had to have Emergency Gall Bladder surgery. The bills were astronomical. Still, using payment plans and adding a roomate, I was able to make it work.
Last week I found out I am getting a promotion soon. Everything will be fine... my family is truly almost there... but... Today, a man ran a red light and my car is now totaled. I need a vehicle. There is no money in savings. No back up fund, no friends or family that haven't already helped us through the trials and tribulations of the last couple years AND I have to battle in court to prove the accident is not my fault.
I am almost to independence, almost able to support myself, but I need a vehicle to get to work and to support my family. I am asking for assistance in accruing a down payment.
