Binder Park Zoo Climb for Lions

Binder Park Zoo is a private, nonprofit Zoo situated on 433 acres in Battle Creek, Michigan. We are accredited by the Assocation of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

In 2014, Binder Park Zoo announced the $3.1M "Lions, Tortoise, & Bears...Oh My!" Capital Campaign that includes new exhibits for our American Black Bears, Aldabra Giant Tortoise, the addition of an African tented camp and school for educational programming, and the addition of an African Lion exhibit. 


The Zoo has received generous support from the community, but one individual has gone above and beyond. In 2014, ten year old Yasmin Pirbhai began a campaign to assist the Zoo with fundraising for the African Lion exhibit. In a few short months, she was able to raise $5,000 to go toward the campaign. Her donation was then matched twice, once by her parents and then by her mother's employer, bringing the total donation to $15,000. Not willing to stop there, in Spring of 2015, Yasmin (now 11 years old) announced that she will attempt to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise additional funds for the Lion Exhibit. Through securing sponsors for her climb, Yasmin has raised close to another $15,000 that will go directly towards the Binder Park Zoo Lion Exhibit. The Zoo wishes to rally the generous spirit of this young lady with a community campaign of our own. Our goal is to double Yasmin's fundraising efforts by the end of her climb and to bring us closer to reaching our goal of opening a world class Lion Exhibit at Binder Park Zoo.
