Biketastic Fundraiser

I'm a freelance writer and public historian. My area of expertise is 19th centurtry New Orleans cycling clubs.
This year marks 150 years since the invention of the bicycle by Pierre Lallement. To celebrate, I'm putting on an event called The Bicycle: 150 Years of History and Art, at Bar Redux and Castillo Blanco Art Studios on July 9.
I'll be giving a presentation on 19th century bicycle art at Bar Redux (free!) as well as a presentation at Castillo Blanco on the very first cycling clubs in New Orleans. There will also be a not-to-be-missed presentation by David Herlihy, permier cycling historian of the United States and author of Bicycle: the History. In 1993, Herlihy presented evidence at the International Cycling History Conference that settled the debate once and for all of who first invented the bicycle.
There will also be a Mens' Smoker, Ladies Social, and Dandy Dance Party with DJ Matty in Castillo Blanco's spacious backyard. Riders are encouraged to bring their bikes to the dance party!
This event is a fundraiser for Bike Easy, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the safety and enjoyment of cyclists in New Orleans.
What we need money for:
Travel and accomodations for our keynote speaker
Entertainment
Random incidentals such as printing costs
Aside from fundraising, the goal of this event is to promote cycling in New Orleans as both transportation and recreation, bring together the several tribes of the New Orleans cycling community, and provide a fun and unique educational opportunity for the public.
A donation of $5 or more before July 4 will get you credit for the entire suggested donation at the door.
