In February 2010 my husband and I tied the knot.  Life was great and we loved being married.  We also had two great jobs and things were going pretty well.  About six months later we decided that we wanted to become a family and started trying to get pregnant.  After several months of no success, my husband and I went to the doctor to find out what was wrong and if there was anything we could do to help.  To our shock, the doctors told us that we had recently had a miscarriage, and to make the matters even worse, they told us that we should do everything in our power to not get pregnant.  The doctors did not have any specific answers other than “something just isn’t right with your body and you would end up losing the next child if you did get pregnant again.”  We were completely devastated and spent the next several weeks crying together.  We even went to other doctors to get different opinions and they all came back with the same response.

We tried to come to the realization that we were not going to have kids but in the back of our minds we were in complete shock.  After all, life was great with my husband and we would be completely happy and have a great life as the two of us.  So, we continued our road trips and our hobbies and just enjoyed life.

Something was always missing though.  At that point I decided that I was going to do everything in my power to get my body in better shape physically and mentally.  So, I started working out several times a week, I changed jobs to a company where there was less stress, and I learned how to better control my stress.  My husband and I even moved to a different part of Arizona so that we were living where the air was cleaner and had less pollution.  With this move my husband was forced to take a new job that only pays half of what he was getting paid previously.  However, even though this was a massive cut to our income, we knew that it would be worth it in the end. My husband and I had decided that we were going to prove the doctors wrong!!

Then, in October 2013 we got pregnant!! We were over joyed and filled with so much excitement and nervousness at the same time.  Throughout the pregnancy my husband and I did everything we could to make sure that our pregnancy went as smooth as possible and tried to develop our new baby as best as we could.

On June 19th, 2014 our sweet boy was born!! We instantly fell in love with him and were overfilled with joy.

Then, 2 ½ weeks later we went into the doctor’s office for a routine check up and found out that something wasn’t right with his heart.  We were sent over to the local children’s hospital and had extensive testing performed on him.  After hours and hours of waiting at the hospital for all of the exams to be completed and reviewed we found out that his heart was not developing as fast as the rest of his body.  This was causing the blood to flow to fast into and out of his heart.  We were advised that we would need to come back every few months to have the same list of tests performed again to determine how is heart was developing.  The doctors told us that if his heart did not develop fully in the next year on its own, our baby would end up needing surgery.

My husband and I are asking for support along this journey of ours that our sweet baby’s heart will develop fully on its own and that he will not need to have heart surgery.

We are also asking for some financial assistance as the costs that have occurred were much higher than we were planning for.  Our son needed to be delivered via C-section due to how big he was and ending up costing just over $20,000.00 for the delivery.  Thankfully our health insurance will cover the majority of that bill however we are still responsible for a sizable portion.  The children’s hospital billing department has estimated with all of the exams performed and for the cardiologists that were working on our case that our bill was going to be over $10,000.  Again, our health insurance will hopefully cover a huge portion of those bills but we do not know to what extent.  We also have to start planning financially for all of the future exams and costs that will be incurred as we follow up on the growth of his heart over the next several months.  We are asking for a little bit of help financially to at least get us going and to cover some of these initial medical bills.

My husband, son and I would like to thank you in advance for any support you can provide for our family to help us make it through the next several months!
