Rebecca has been with Special Olympics GB for over 10 years as part of the Rosendale Special Ski Club. Thanks to the variety of sports offered by her club, Rebecca has won medals for skiing, swimming, tag rugby and athletics.
Competing with Special Olympics GB has meant that Rebecca has raced against other athletes who love the sports as much as she does.
Rebecca has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Alpine Skiing competition at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria in 2017, one of the biggest events in the Special Olympic global calendar which will attract over 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from over 110 countries.
Rebecca loves that Special Olympics GB includes everyone and gives her and other athletes the chance to compete for their country, something they strive for making them proud of what they can do, ignoring what they can’t.
For the athletes, going to the Games is not only about participating in their chosen sport: it’s about meeting athletes from around the world, making new friends, having fun, daring, improving their health and challenging preconceptions about people who have an intellectual disability.
