Hi there! My name is Mark, and I am addicted to BBQ.
As you may or may not already know, my dad and I have started a BBQ team called The Meat Rubbers BBQ. We have progressed from a couple backyard (amateur) events to competing in KCBS certified competitions! Our scores are continuing to increase with each comp, and we're constantly looking at ways to better each and every cook that we do.
This is where you come in. With the help of friends that actually know how to weld, I would like to build my own gravity feed smoker for us to use in competitions. It will allow us to go from maintaining 3 different smokers at the competitions to using this new smoker to cook all the meats in at once.
Here's the breakdown of how I will spend all money received:
1. Off the top, I will donate 20% of all funds to Operation BBQ Relief, a 501.c.3 charity that rallies the BBQ community to provide BBQ meals to help out in times of disaster. Even if you decide not to donate to me, please consider a donation to them - Operation BBQ Relief
2. With the rest of the money, I will first build the gravity smoker, which should cost somewhere around $1000-$1500. Any money above and beyond our goal will go to fund our 2016 year of competitions, and all costs incurred to compete. It's not a cheap sport, but we love it!
Your consideration really means a lot to me. The best thing about this sport is that it has allowed me time to sit and chat with my dad about life while we're at the competitions. We both enjoy competing immensly, but it's the time together that really matters. Please help me to continue this fine tradition with my dad!
