The Jprem Family Chennai flood fund

Donation protected
First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who has enquired about our parents and family back home in Chennai, India. It means so much to know that our friends who have become family to us have got our backs and are ready to support us in every way. Your continued support and, more than anything your prayers are truly appreciated.

Chennai, our hometown back in South India, witnessed one of the worst storms and floods in 114 years. The Northeast Monsoon season of 2015 brought heavy rainfall that battered the city incessantly for weeks along with two major cyclones. Within days, the coastal city was submerged underwater. Almost 500 people died with many still missing. Many of our family and friends we know have suffered great loss.

Some of you have met John's parents when they visited us last winter for Christmas and you know them personally. Chennai is where our family lives. When the storm hit, they were completely cut off from everyone with no electricity and no access to food and clean water. As the floods rose to the roof of the house, John's parents were able to get to safety. Now, with everything swept away and nothing salvageable, they are completely displaced with no home, no clothes and no belongings to call their own.

To start life all over again is going to be extremely hard for them and so many others. We are very concerned for their well being because of the poor hygiene and sanitation problems along with piles of garbage and sewage water everywhere. The challenges in the aftermath of the flood are the danger of a spreading epidemic, relief and rehabilitation and other health concerns. Unfortunately, we are unable to travel to India and go be with them at this moment. We feel helpless and that is why we are reaching out to  you. If you find it in your heart to bless our family and impact their lives from across the globe, please donate. The first thing they will have to do is to look for clean and safe place to live in temporarily till they can rebuild their house, take precautions for their health and step by step they will have to buy new items.

Every single penny given here will go toward rebuilding their lives, getting new clothes, food and basic belongings like bedsheets, towels, pots and pans etc. We have calculated the expenses in Indian currency and have entered it's value in US dollars. Your donation will mean so much to us.

As the water continues to recede, we hope to be able to assist them financially in 2 weeks. Anything more will go into helping other displaced families and friends we know. No penny will go to waste. It will all count for someone affected by the flood and are in need.

Thank you again for your support and prayers.

With love,
John and Joanna
