Safe Haven

The apartment complex where I live is kind of uninhabitable. It's filthy: kids pee in the elevators, once I found that someone had actually defecated in the stairwell, and the trash compactor is overflowing 50% of the time.  It's noisy: there's subwoofers and car alarms going at all hours of the night, our neighbor screams at and beats his children.  More than anything, it's unsafe: people have literally died right down the road from it, there have been drug deals that have gone down in broad daylight in the parking lot, and I've seen firearms discharged in the parking lot not fifty feet from my window.  We're afraid to go outside after dark--pizza places won't even deliver here anymore it's so dangerous.

We want out, but we don't have enough money right now to cover moving costs.  Since it usually costs first, last, and deposit, as well as application/credit check fees, moving is just more money than we can drop all at once, but we feel unsafe and really uncomfortable where we are.  We're four friends, two cats, and a bearded dragon, and all we want is a safe, quiet place to live safe, quiet lives.  We will never have that where we are.
