Help with Baby's Medical Expenses

BABY’s STORY:

Thank you to everyone for considering creatureKind ’s financial plea for BABY. Your donations will go toward paying for her surgery performed by one of the best veterinary surgeons in CA, Dr. Raviv Balfour at ASEC (Animal Surgery & Emergency Center) in West Los Angeles. BABY had two separate pelvic fractures that required a metal plate to put all the pieces back together.  The more recent smaller fracture was the result of the trauma of a car hitting her that was witnessed by the kind and compassionate woman who scooped her off the street on Mother’s Day.
BABY was x-rayed by two different vets, including Dr. Balfour. It was determined that she would be in too much pain and discomfort to even try and allow the pelvic fracture to heal on cage rest, especially as there was a secondary fracture near the hip bone. For a dog weighing only 3 lbs., she had certainly suffered a lot of trauma. During surgery Dr. Balfour discovered that the main pelvic fracture was actually much older than we had thought. He estimated 5-6 weeks old, due to scar tissue build-up. The pelvis was in three pieces and required a metal plate to put it all back together again. He was able to reassemble the secondary and more recent injury without a plate or screw. BABY was also microchipped during surgery.

BABY is making an excellent recovery and upon release from ASEC was placed with a wonderful foster home in Pasadena, where she will recover on cage rest (and lots of TLC!).

The good news is that BABY responded very well to the surgery and is already feeling much better.  She’s eating homemade food and luxuriating in the new bed her nice foster family bought especially for her. She will never be thrown away or hit by a car again!

Soon she will be rechecked and x-rayed again to make sure she healed well and will also be spayed at the same time. Dr. Balfour will spay her, as it is a more delicate procedure than usual due to BABY’s fragile condition.

The Hogan Family Foundation has generously donated $1000 toward BABY’s medical expenses. However, we are still in need of funding to cover the remaining ASEC bill.  Please consider helping BABY and creatureKind with your donation – we are grateful for any amount! Any funding we are fortunate enough to receive over our goal for BABY’s expenses will go to support our many other animal rescue efforts.

FROM BABY’s FOSTER PARENTS :

BABY is right now sleeping in my lap (I can hardly move!), after taking her meds, gobbling up some breakfast, and even inadvertently taking water from the tiny dish. I slept downstairs with her last night as we decided it might be a bit too much to introduce her to our bedroom after such a long day.  She slept most of the night and only seemed most annoyed about where to put her head with that darn cone.  She is really a sweetheart!  And no separation anxiety for this one! She has decided to eat and drink out of both her bowls, regularly use her little patch of astro-turf on the patio, and enjoy the outside in general.

FROM BABY:

Well, I finally decided to give in and EAT and DRINK.  I love the bison kibbles with sweet potato and peas. And I'm enjoying my new bed.  In fact, after I decided to eat I had enough energy to get out of my bed and sit here.  What a difference a little eating will do.  Oh, and I was given only half the dose of pain meds this morning so the world is a bit clearer!

WHO WE ARE:

creatureKIND  is a 501c3 non-profit organization working toward a future where animal suffering is a thing of the past and founded with the purpose of helping to make the world a better place for animals, especially those we have domesticated and have a responsibility toward. We endeavor to bring more awareness to the underlying issues which lead to unnecessary suffering and death for millions of dogs and cats every year, not just through rescue of animals in need, but through programs such as Creature COMFORT, Senior KIND and Pay TOSPAY, which help educate, encourage and provide incentives for positive change.
