Toffeenose's surgery!

TIME SENSITIVE- URGENT HELP REQUIRED!

This is Toffeenose, one of our four rehomed rescue rats. He's about a year old, full of life, happy and healthy, and promises to be a wonderful companion. The picture above is him in his old cage, but his new one is much bigger with lots of places to hide and perch. We promised to give him and his cagemate, Django, a forever home.

Unfortunately almost over night, a manageable abscess in his leg that we were treating him for has herniated out, creating a painful and vulnerable peice of tissue hanging off his back leg, which puts him a risk of a potentially fatal infection if let untreated. We believe it is an abscess but it may also be a tumour. It's important to note at this point that the vet of 10 years experience had never seen anything like this.

Warning! This photo may be triggering due to the admittedly pretty gross nature of the abscess. Please do not look if you are squeamish. Otherwise, the photo is here: http://i.imgur.com/RyRYifl.jpg

His surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (4th of July) early in the morning. The surgeon will then assess him and put him under.

His options are:

A) Surgical exploration of the abscess with removal posing no additional risks, including suturing but not aftercare: £100

B) It turns out to be a tumor and goes deeper into the leg, resulting in a hind leg amputation- again, not including after care or consultation costs which could range around another £50: £300

C) The surgeon finds it impossible to complete either A or B and declares it necessary to put Toffeenose to sleep: £30-£40, not including surgical or consultation costs.

My flatmate, Andy, and I were financially stable when we adopted these boys, but unfortunately we have both come upon lean months since then- as many of you dear readers will sympathize. We understand that this is a very big goal and a very short time frame, and the reason we ask for £400 as our end goal is to make sure he's going to be as comfortable as possible, regardless of the outcome.

Unfortunately I will not be able to offer compensation to donators if it turns out Toffeenose does not make it, or is put to sleep, because the veterinarian will not be compensating me for any surgical costs should he not pull through. I will need as much help as possible to recover from the blow to our finances.

On Gofundme, the minimum donation is £5, but anything you can spare is gratefully appreciated. If you would like to be updated on Toffeenose's progress, or any of our other rats, please send me a message through Gofundme.com and I'll be happy to update you as soon as we know his status tomorrow. I will also update this page.

Regardless of outcome I'd like to personally thank you, dear reader, for considering to donate. It means so much to us all. If you cannot spare anything towards this donation I would also very much appreciate passing around the link to anyone at all. Any rat lovers, any vets, anyone at all.

We also appreciate any well wishes and prayers  you have to offer us.
Thank you so, so much.

Love and light,
Sarah, Andy, and our rats:

Fester, Gus, Mr. Bojangles, Django, and Toffeenose.
