Independence with a Handicapped Van!

Lynnette is a 37-year old quadriplegic (due to spinal cord injury) who has recently been widowed (the day after her birthday). Her husband was her “arms and legs”. He fed her, bathed her, combed her hair, and scratched her nose when it itched. Taking her places involved lifting her out of the power chair up into the front seat of their SUV. Then he would drive the power chair up the ramps into the back of the SUV. Upon arrival, he would go through the same steps in reverse. This was very time consuming. His hard work cannot be duplicated by any one of her caregivers. He performed these tasks out of genuine love for her. At this time, Lynnette has no reliable transportation available to her. Therefore, our goal is for her to be able to purchase a handicap equipped minivan which would allow caregivers, friends, or family members to easily take her to church, lunch with friends, doctors’ appointments, to college, as well as find employment.
