Ashley, my beautiful, bright wonderful girl has been referred to a specialist autism centre called The Lorna Wing Autism Centre. Although she has been accepted for referral, the NHS unfortunately won't fund her assessment and the decision cannot be appealed against. I am hoping, through the help of donations I can get her the referral she desperately needs.
Ashley has had a tough last 5 years with countless assessments and hospital visits. She has struggled immensely with school (although being supported wonderfully) and is starting high school this September. She is under the care of a psychiatrist as her mental health is suffering and she is also receiving support for her dyslexia and poor fine motor control.
The educational psychologist believes an assessment at this centre is vital as she's incredibly complex. She has also had a six week assessment by a lady who specialises in autism who has suggested the same.
The NHS have been amazing in supporting Ashley in so many ways but unfortunately in this instance they can't help. If she goes down the standard NHS pathway it is a minimum 2 year waiting list for an initial assessment, she will then have to wait again to be referred to Lorna Wing! My gorgeous girl needs support before then and we as a family need to know what support to give her. Without the assessment we really don't know if what we're doing is right.
The cost of the assessment is £3000. Any help towards this cost will be so greatly appreciated. If through our fundraising events we raise more than our target, the remaining amount will be used to help build Ashley's sensory den in our garden.
