Art for Assistance - Help Me Move!
If you know me, you know that I love science, art, nature and education. But, I have been without a full-time position in science for a few years. During this time, I worked hard to pay my bills, sustain myself, and make a difference…. I started an education center with a colleague to teach science to children (Atlanta, GA); I worked as adjunct faculty in biology at various universities; I taught myself how to create different forms of art and worked hard to market and sell them; I also opened an art gallery with my partner, Dave Sylvester (Alameda, CA). Even with all of this, I find myself with only enough money to pay my monthly bills.
Recently, I accepted a position as a full-time biology lecturer at Hawaii Pacific University. I have been actively looking for jobs in my field for a few years. After more applications than I prefer to admit, I was finally offered this great opportunity. Unfortunately, there are no funds available for moving expenses. Even more unfortunate, I have very little money to my name. I definitely do not have enough for the move. Additionally, I will not be receiving my first paycheck for several weeks into the job. I am selling some items to finance the move, but it will not be enough. Therefore, I am reaching out to friends and family for assistance. I will be offering incentives for donations in the form of various art pieces and a place to stay in Hawaii should you ever visit! (Please do visit!)
I need the money immediately for expenses, including:
1) airline baggage fees (to get essential belongins over)
2) cargo shipping costs (to move my belongings via ship)
3) transportation costs (busing to work)
4) down payment for a car
5) deposit & 1st month rent for an apartment
6) initial living expenses (food, utilities, etc)
What are the Incentives?
$5 - $20 = a thank you card with one of my original sketches and a hope you will visit
$25+ = five 5 x 7" prints of my original sketches (choose from designs, see below)
$50+ = an 8 x 10" print of one of my original city skyline paintings & five 5 x 7" prints of my original sketches (choose from designs, see below)
$100+ = two 8 x 10" prints of my city skyline art &
five 5 x 7" prints of my original sketches
$150+ = three 8 x 10" reprints of city skyline art & the complete pack of ten 5 x 7" cards of original sketches
$200+ = all four 8 x 10" reprints of city skyline art & the complete pack of ten 5 x 7" cards of original sketches
$250+ = an original sketch by me (will discuss design options); four 8 x 10" reprints; complete pack of ten 5 x 7" sketch prints
$500+ = an original piece of art by me; choose from select wearable art designs or wall art designs
$750+ = a custom piece of commissioned art (within my realm of experience; will discuss options)
Art has been an important part of my life while I have been between jobs. It has helped me financially, spiritually and mentally. I do not plan to stop making art after starting my new job. It has come to be too much a part of me to let go of it now. I am already investigating art fairs and shows in Hawaii where I can sell / display my work. I will also keep pieces in our art gallery in Alameda, CA.
