With Love to Sam & Her Family

Donation protected
On August 8, 2015, Samantha Patrice Carson was found unresponsive by her brother. She was rushed to the hospital and placed in the ICU. Although her breathing tube was removed and she began to breathe on her own, Sam remained unresponsive. On August 14, test results confirmed a case of endocarditis that resulted in a loss of meaningful brain activity. Doctors believe she is not likely to recover. Sam’s family has chosen to place her in hospice care to make her comfortable.

This gofundme account, set up by her friends, is to help Sam's family with her medical expenses. We want to make sure her family has as little financial stress  as possible during this time so they can focus their attention on Sam. She is an amazing person that has inspired us all.

Thank you for your donation and support.

About Sam

Everyone who knows Sam, or has met her even once, has nothing but good things to say and lasting impressions.

Sam graduated from Brenau University with a BS in Biology in 2011. She was an active and beloved member of Mu Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. Sam touched the lives of every Mu Chapter Sister she met. Sam’s Sister-Daughter, her sorority little, wrote the following note on Facebook:

“Mama-Sam,
What can I say, you are the sweetest, kindest, most genuine and caring person I know. The day we got to pick sister moms you were the first on my list, and I was so excited when I turned around and you were standing in front of me. You always took the time to listen when I needed to talk and I've always looked up to you for how loyal and dedicated you are. You are a strong woman and you exemplify what it means to be an Alpha Gam. Keeping up with the journey you have traveled so far has been inspiring to me and has motivated me to start a similar path on my journey in life. Your smile always brightens up the room and just seeing your smile always brightens up my whole day. I was so excited when you told me you would be at my wedding earlier this year and getting that big hug from you just made the whole day even better and warmed my heart. I can't wait to see your beautiful smile and get another big ol hug from you again. Continue to fight and and get well soon. LIEP
love you always,
Your Courtnee-baby”

After college Sam started an amazing journey in which she pushed herself to new limits. In 2013 she began the road to weight loss by joining a weight loss center and starting to walk. She was skeptical, she told the Atlanta Track Club , but as weeks turned to months, the weight did come off. Seeing results motivated Sam even more, by her 25th birthday, in September of 2015, she had lost more than 100 pounds. She wanted to accomplish weight loss, but also beginning to run again, where she started to complete 5ks and 10ks. The AJC Peachtree Road Race was a special achievement of hers. She looked forward to running alongside thousands of other runners, and was excited to celebrate with her family as she crossed the finish line. She was quoted as saying, “I wouldn’t have taken that first step to lose weight if it wasn’t for my family’s confidence in my abilities to do whatever it took to attain a better way of living.”

Medical Situation

Sam had an unknown heart valve problem which along with an unknown infection that spread to her heart caused a massive stroke which has left her brain dead; however, she still has the reflexes to breathe, open her eyes, and swallow. Due to the loss of brain activity and the infection, Sam’s liver and kidneys have shut down. Antibiotics have helped the infection. She is anemic so she has an immune deficiency and dialysis flushes the antibiotics out of her system. She is also having seizures.

Options were to provide acute care -- continuing dialysis and putting in a feeding tube, which would leave her in a vegetative state for a few months, or make her comfortable in hospice and let her pass naturally. In a recent conversation with her sister-in-law, Sam expressed her wishes to be let go naturally.

Samantha has been a bright spot in so many people’s lives, please offer your prayers and thoughts for Sam and her family. Please also consider a financial contribution to help Sam’s family with her medical costs.
