Alewife NYC has become a fixture in Long Island City for good drinks, good food, good service and good company since its opening just over a year ago. We are very sad to report that, like so many others, we have sustained massive internal damage due to the storm surge and floods from Hurricane Sandy.
We incurred catastrophic damage as the flood levels rose more than 4 feet and breached our space, wiping out our ground level and basement flooring, equipment, refrigeration, tables & chairs, and our food and beverage inventory.
But we realize there are so many others out there that have suffered even so much more than we have. Thus, even as our own re-building efforts have taken root, our entire team at Alewife has been collecting and delivering donations, food, clothing and equipment to the storm-ravaged areas of the Rockaways and Staten Island. Our selfless team is dedicated to getting Alewife back on track, too, as we need to replace motors, floors, refrigerators, ovens, lights, computers and much more...
We will continue to use Alewife as a drop off point for donations in the coming days and to coordinate supplies to people in need on Staten Island & the Rockaways. In fact, for every donation made to us, we will donate 10% to shelters to help the relief effort.
Thanks to everyone for their support over the last few days and hope we can get back to business bigger and better than ever very soon with your help.
It's not easy for us to ask for support when so many have lost everything, but we are determined to continue to serve the Long Island City community and surrounding areas. We realize that with the economy in the state it's in and with so many businesses and friends/family in need that there's only so much assistance to go around. Please know we so greatly appreciate any donation you can make, regardless of size. We look forward to serving and seeing you all again very soon!
