ALDA's Scholarship Fund

Tax deductible
One of the goals of ALDA (the Association of Late-Deafened Adults) is to provide information to late-deafened adults, their families, friends, colleagues, and members of the general public concerning the personal, familial, social, economic  and communication challenges produced by hearing loss.  One of the ways that ALDA pursues this goal is by hosting an annual conference  (ALDAcon) at which people can attend a variety of informative workshops, listen to outstanding guest speakers, visit the Exhibit Hall and learn about new and developing technologies that might benefit them, and meet and socialize with others who have had similar life experiences.

An outstanding feature of ALDAcon  is that it provides a stress-free communications environment for persons with hearing loss.  All events are made communications accessible for everyone through the use of assistive listening systems, sign language interpreters, and Communications Access Real-time Translation (CART) captioning displayed on large screens.   Often late-deafened adults have no sign language or speechreading skills, are not familiar with assistive listening technology, and can only understand what is being said by a speaker if it is written on a big screen.

ALDA tries to facilitate the attendance of newcomers to ALDAcon by offering scholarships that defray the costs of attendance.  These scholarships are completely funded by donations, and the ALDA Scholarship Fund is never adequate to satisfy the requests.  All donations to our GoFundMe campaign will be used to provide scholarships to ALDAcon for people who are likely to be isolated and in great need of the educational and social opportunities provided by attendance at ALDAcon.

The next ALDAcon will be held on October 23-17 at the Marriott Kansas City Overland Park Hotel in Kansas City, Kansas.  We are looking forward to being able to facilitate increased attendance by newcomers with the aid of funds raised by GoFundMe.  Attendance at ALDAcon is often described as a "life changing" experience by those late-deafened adults who manage to attend.   Please donate and help late-deafened adults learn more about how to lead enriching lives with a hearing loss.
