This article is about me, hi, and talks about how 100% of proceeds will be going to the Bush family. Not 93.1%! This was made possible by a wonderful community member, Gerry Monaghan, and his initiative to start a fundraiser specific for the admin costs.
There were several people worried that 100% of proceeds would not be going to the family due to the nature of crowd funding sites, which require admin fees.
To make things right, I expressed my desire to cover the 7.9% of admin costs to make it so Madison Cortright, daughter of Amanda Bush and Adam Cortright, receives 100% of proceeds.
The final cost of admin fees added up to a little over $1,900. Several community members expressed their concern that it would not be right for me, a college student, to have to deal with these costs by myself.
Nonetheless, I stood by my claim that I would be paying the 7.9% fee on my own. Ithaca was too kind to let me do that.
Gerry Monaghan, a kind-hearted Ithaca, set up a fund specific to these admin costs. This way, more than one person would be responsible to cover these costs. I overestimated my ability to take this all on by myself. A little bit from everyone could go a long way, and we could all cover the admin fees together.
If you are interested, the site that Gerry set up is right below.
"Amanda's service is Monday at 2 pm at Lake Watch Inn in Lansing NY any other questions please refer to the obituary in the Ithaca Journal tomorrow (Thursday)
Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support"
-Adam Cortright, father of Madison and fiancé of Amanda Bush
Hope we can all gather together and continue to support the family. Thanks everyone.
After hearing about the horrific accident at Simeon’s Restaurant and the tragic death of Amanda Bush, I wanted to do something to help our community. I did so the only way that I knew how, and decided to create a fundraising website for the benefit of Amanda’s daughter, Madison.
I was aware that the website charged a fee for donations, but did not see this as a problem. However, it has clearly become a source of concern and confusion for donees and for the community. In response, I have decided to contribute the 7.9% administrative fee deducted by the GoFundMe website back to the fund, in order to put this issue to rest.
In other words the Bush family, more specifically, Madison Bush, will receive 100% of the proceeds donated to the GoFundMe website.
The fund will not be closing, and so long as people remain willing to contribute, the fund will remain open indefinitely. It is unfortunate that this community’s focus has been diverted from our mutual goal of aiding the Bush family in their time of need. I hope that we can move past this and continue to work together to support Madison . To ensure that we do, I do not intend to address this issue further.
Thank you to all of those who have donated to this site. Please remember that you can also choose to donate to the Amanda Bush Memorial Fund through the United Way.
100% of the proceeds accumulated within both funds will be given to the Bush family.
The funds created here will be put in a trust in the name of the baby for her needs.
I will update you all tomorrow after the trust has been set up, in the name of the baby. We are here to make sure the baby will be taken care of. Immediate costs as well as future costs are all being considered--
No one should benefit from someone else's tragedy, but the funds being raised will definitely aid the family in the way they need.
Thank you all for your continuous support of the Bush family fund. No words can describe the beauty of teamwork.
Can I just say we reached our goal in less than 24 hours? You all are amazing. I increased our goal to keep up the momentum.
We've had some concerns about the legitimacy in this fundraiser since I don't know the family personally. Yes I am a stranger that took action to help a family that resides in the same community as me. Unfortunately, I knew doubts were inevitable, but I assure you that this money will be going to the Bush family. We are in the process of deciding the best way to do this--it will take time, but it is going to happen. Yes, I have been in contact with them.
Thank you again, everyone. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or concerns.
On Friday June 20, a horrific accident struck the city of Ithaca, leaving one dead and seven injured. Around 4 pm, a truck carrying seven vehicles struck Simeons restaurant--a four story building that has been around for over 130 years.
The life of Amanda Bush, 27, was taken from us as she was working behind the bar at the historic Ithaca restaurant.
Bush left behind a 14 month old daughter as well as the rest of her family. The outpouring emotional support from residents of Ithaca has been astounding, and I wanted to set up this fundraising page to continue the support for the Bush family in the long run to help with the baby's future.
Please share this page. This tragic event is already being handled so beautifully by the IPD, IFD, and many community members.
Over 30,000 people reside in the city of Ithaca. A financial gift of any amount can go a long way--and I know the community of Ithaca can work together to truly make a positive impact on the Bush family and the daughter she left behind.
Amanda was such a friendly and nice bartender when I used to stop in and grab a bite to eat at the bar. I can only imagine what a great person she was to those she really cared about. My heartfelt condolences.
