Fort Bastian Hiker Hostel Wants To Grow

Its an incredible journey these hikers undertake when they decide to do something like leaving all comforts of modern society behind, strap on a backpack, and walk across 14 states, traveling 2184 miles on foot. People do it for a lot of different reasons initially, but what most find is that they develop a greater sense of themselves, a greater trust in their ability to provide for their needs, confidence, strength, stamina, and most incredibly, and difficult in this day and age, they realize they don’t really need very much to be happy anymore. And that is a great thing for someone to learn. Happiness is natural and easy!
And although people may not realize why they have been drawn out here in the first place, I like to help them on their journey to discover it for themselves. That’s what we do here. We offer hikers a different kind of hostel and campground. The small fee charged per night is less than half of what is typically charged, and it includes a hot breakfast of bacon, eggs and pancakes, a place to camp, a covered campfire and a large tent if the weather turns unruly. It’s primitive camping at the moment, meaning the water comes from the creek, something all hikers are used to, and a separate couple of spots down river for bathing and washing. Also included, is a shuttle into town for a resupply and Laundromat run.
There is usually live music at night from the host, Trubrit, and from the myriad of talented hikers that come through. There are loaner guitars for their use, and sheet music. We have a surround sound system, but prefer to hear the talented hikers w ho like to play.
Currently we use a generator to power the charging strip for the hikers electronics, which takes fuel. The camp kitchen, were breakfast is prepared, is run off of propane. It is also made available for the hikers to use to cook their diners, saving their own fuel.
This fundme account is to help pay for the construction costs of a new hostel building, proper, for the hikers. We currently are harvesting our own pine and we have the tools to construct it, but the fuel for the power tools and rental equipment sometimes put a halt to construction.
We need a Roto-tiller, a bobcat, transfer pump, well, septic-field to build the comfort station. The comfort station is a stand-alone shower block with showers, toilets and sinks.
We also envision a stand of fruit trees, so the hikers who find fruit too heavy to carry on the trail, can pick at their leisure and enjoy as part of the experience.

With your help, we can improve the amenities, and continue to offer our help to the community.
