You may know that over the past few years Alex's health has been on the decline. On top of his existing heart condition (Tetralogy of Fallot) and pacemaker, he has been struggling with life-threatening gastrointestinal problems that prohibit him from ingesting food. This January, he experienced another sharp decline in his health, and has spent the past few months juggling appointments with dozens of doctors, specialists and alternative medicine practitioners while dropping more than 30 pounds from his already slight frame. He has been hospitalized twice in the past month.

So far, this is what's happened:
Doctors have ruled out several things, but haven't been able to diagnose or find an effective method of treatment for him.
He recently had a G-tube installed, which allows him to have some liquid elemental sustenance via pump by bypassing the stomach. This is not a sustainable, practical long-term method!
Medical bills have poured in. One recent bill for a single service topped $30k. They will continue.

Given his condition, he has been unable to work since last year.He has applied for disability, but that process will usually take upwards of two years (!) to take affect, if he is approved, and even then it typically provide only partial financial relief.
He needs your help to pay for medical bills and continue to seek out a solution to his very dire circumstances. He has been incredibly strong and brave (and sarcastic) about the whole experience, but we know he's in a lot of pain; as a staunchly self-reliant person he rarely asks for the help of others unless there is no other option.
He is very familiar with doctors and the process and without the support of family and friends it wears on his already deteriorated state considerably.

Other pertinent information:
Alex would like to experience the simple pleasures in life once again; pancakes, In-And-Out, being able to function without a feeding machine attached 24/7.
This is the time to contribute and help him get healthy once more!
