A Novelist's Dream

My name is Michael A. Espinoza, and I am a fantasy novelist from Texas. I write short stories, poems, and songs about heroic fantasy concepts, such as those present in the works of Robert E. Howard. For the past two years I have been working on a project entitled "Blades of Cairndale," a fantasy epic about a brilliant queen, her loyal servant, her powerful army, and the events surrounding the queen's relationship with her father, as it pertains to her continued rule over the realm of Cairndale. I have had much support from friends, family, and my beloved girlfriend, who is family in my heart. Whether it's been editing or consulting on an idea I had for the story, this network of encouragement has ever been there for me.
I've had detractors, people who condemn fantasy writing as unworthy by its very nature, people who have striven to tear me down, and those who think the dream of being a writer is too far-fetched for some blind guy with an English degree. But this blind guy with an English degree firmly says no to those naysayers. What are fantasy writers if not dreamers, and if I wish to be amongst their ranks, I have to bet on myself and get my work out there. Writing is a field where my blindness does not matter, it is the place where I--like a visual artist--can make others see through my mind's eye. But my work is not on canvas, it is in words that travel into the reader's mind, linking my world with their own as I paint for them the things I behold in my thoughts, shaping colorful landscapes, lively characters, and epic battles.
I am close to being finished with my novel. As its end draws near, I must be ready to act with it, to distribute it once I have edited it. I plan to self-publish, but this takes resources that I do not, at present, have. A sighted person who can format the pages, an artist to design a cover, and a manufacturer who can print my books are just a few of the expenses for which I must account. Working as a writer full-time has not left me access to the funds I'd need to pursue these necessities, and this is where I ask that you come in. Just as the Fellowship of the Ring pledged loyalty to their cause, as Dumbledore's Army united to stand as one, and as the soldiers in my novel support their queen, I ask that you support me, not as some leader or hero, but as a comrade in the love of writing, a fellow believer in the worth of fantasy literature, and a dreamer. If I can reach my goal, even come near it, I can launch myself into the realm of publication and from there rise to the heights of my dream, my goal, and my passion: To tell fantastic tales and share my visions with the world.
