Accessible Toilets in Uganda

My name is Doreen Nyamwija and I am currently working with the Iona Community in Scotland. I am from Uganda. This campaign for raising money to construct accessible toilets for children with disabilities in primary schools started 2 years ago.
We have since been able to raise enough money to do this in 2 different schools, including the school where my brother and I were raised. In addition to the accessible toilets, 2 changing rooms, solar power, a water tank for hand wash and cleaning equipment were also provided to these schools.
This campaign continues, and we hope to help as many schools as possible and also create more awareness about the need for better facilities across the country
I care about this because poor facilities lower disabled children’s self esteem, makes them vulnerable, and leads to easier spread of diseases. We want to make it easier and cleaner for disabled children when accessing and using facilities.
