Art Installation for Korea Burn 2014

Donation protected

I and my team hope to create a beautiful art installation at Korea Burn this summer.
However, wood is extremely expensive here. We are all pitching in our own part to make this idea a reality, but we could really use some help.

Our group is called Eklectopia. We are a group of many talents coming together for a regional event called KOREA BURN.

"This is an experience inspired by it's roots on the playa at Burning Man. It is about community building, self expression, sharing art & music, and gifting. Believing that being selfless and self expression are very important."

This year will be my final year as theme camp leader as I will be quitting my work here earlier than planned due to returning to Canada to take care of my father who is in the early stages of dementia/alzheimers.

We aim to bring the elements together and represent them in the art installation structure pictured bellow (basic rendering).
It will create a space for participants to rest from the heat of the day as well as a meditation/reflection/inspiration/music zone.
There will be two 1 yard (90 cm) tall handmade beeswax candles in the centre on either side of a small reflection pool.
A light weight silk will float from the apex.
Participants will be also encouraged to write messages, prayers, hopes, dreams, stories or anything inside of each of the 4 corners. On the final day the structure will be photographed and and then it will all be burned.
The entire construction uses no metal. It is all natural materials, and will use wood peg nails as well as tongue and groove construction. (However, metal stakes will be used to anchor the structure for saftey)

At Night: battery operated LED string lighting will be used for apex pyramid and inside each corner pyramid (these will be removed before burning)

More about the main designer/artist, Kristina Kauss:

I am currently living, working, creating beautiful things and teaching as an English professor at Kwandong University in Gangneung, Gangwondo in South Korea.

I am a Canadian from Winnipeg, Manitoba, though Korea has been my other home since late 90's.

I am an artist who enjoys working in various media, performance art and visual art from wax to paint to silk to wood and stone. The textures, the feel, the beauty and range of designs are only limited by my imagination.
It’s in the works! It always is!

"The 2014 Theme – Elements

"Elements, meaning the basic parts or principles of things. KOREA BURN 2014 will use a new layout for dividing the sectors, which is inspired by Korea flag. Each symbol on the flag represents an element: earth, air, water, or fire. We want to encourage people to bring their own elements in there. Someone could make music as his or her way to express air. Someone might make huge sculpture that visualize the air. Everybody has their own unique element, and it can be brought by various ways. KOREA BURN 2014 will be the space and time for the unique elements with style brought by burners."

"Art at KOREA BURN

"Creative expression specifically through the arts and interactive art are especially encouraged at KOREA BURN! Artwork is a gift that the artist makes to the community. KOREA BURN provides an exceptionally unique opportunity to make any sort of artistic gift creation that means something to you, and exhibit it in front of an open, accepting, and creatively inspired community!"
