Treatment and Therapy for Alden
Donation protected
Over the last few months Alden has been slowly falling behind developmentally. It had been a concern for us but something that was hoped he would catch up at his own pace.
After a few months of concern he was finally seen by a neurologist. An EEG (electroencephalography) was done which showed he had something called infantile spasms. With this he is having seizures much of the time. The worst ones causing his body to slam forward.
With medications on board which contains very high doses of steroids, vitamin B6, and antiacids (to prevent damage and reflux from the steroids), he still needs tests to find out why this is occurring, physical therapy so he can catch up with his development, and still more EEGs to see if the medications are working.
Through all of this he has been a trooper. Starting with about 10 IV attempts before having one placed in his head at the hospital.
With all of this going on he keeps his big smile. So no matter how emotional this is for us he keeps us smiling as well.
We are using this to keep others updated with Alden's progress as well to get help paying for his medical costs. Especially if he needs to start ACTH injections which can be about $36,000 a vial.
