A Hike For Mental Health needs help

Hello!

My name is Harold 'Happy' Alfano and I am organizing A Hike for Mental Health. It is a 3 day, 50km, hike in Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park.

My volunteer team and I are tasked with finding sponsors to supply hikers and to ensure their saftey. One very important aspect of this is to have 2-way radios provided to the volunteer hiking team, that consists of mostly nurses.

Aquiring radios has become a far more difficult task than initially thought. Most groups and organizations that are willing to help are unable to part with their own equipment for 3 days. This has lead us to the realization that we will either need to purchase these radios or find someone to purchase them for us.

Saftey of our hiking teams is our greatest concern during this fundraiser and we would love to be able to do multiple events next year. My lead hiking volunteer and I have determined that ensuring the safety of everyone involved would require a minimum of 6 radios, but ideally 8.

There is a larger number of hikers involved than the original plan and with every extra team added, the risk also increases.

The plan is to to have teams, with advanced first aid, spread out amoung the hikers. Communication between the front and the back of the pack is essential to ensure that no one is left behind. Without these radios, a large number of people will be on their own. If a team turns around on the first day, due to any reason, the passport stamper at the halfway mark needs to know.

I hate to use Go Fund Me for this fundraiser as we want to minimize the running costs. However, the situation is that without this set up, we would need to ask a single donor to provide the potentially life saving radios. I personally feel that is too much to ask.

Hopefully we will be able to raise the money for this safety equipment with multiple donors chipping in just a little bit each. Any funds raised should be going to CMHA, in my opinion, but these radios are extremely important.

The radios we want to aquire are not the most expensive, but they are rated really well, and most importantly, they have the functionality needed.

Thank you so much for giving the time to read this. We are willing to list any donars on our website as sponsors of A Hike For Mental Health.

Please support CMHA and the hikers who are raising awarness and funds. Hopefully you will be familiar with the hiking teams soon!
