Change Lives with the Guitar

Music has the power to transform, and  save lives.  The Classical Guitar program at William B. Travis High School transforms, and saves the lives of its' students every day.   The school. in inner city Austin Texas serves a primarily low income minority student.  96% of its students live at or below the poverty line.   In the Guitar program, students learn time management, self disipline, increased self esteem,  the ability to multi task, an aesthetic awareness of their world, and a way to release stress and experience beauty.   Travis' Classical Guitar Ensembles offer students a way out of poverty and a road to college.   In 2014 alone, graduating seniors who had been members of the Guitar Ensemble were awarded over $230,000.00 in college scholarships.   Most of the students in the program cannot afford topay for lunch, let alone private lessons.   We are trying to raise funds to support increased and enhanced instruction in the study of Classical Guitar.   Funds raised would be used to provide additional group instruction and private, one on one lessons with a highly qualified instructor.   This enhanced instruction would benefit every student in the program by increasing the skill level and musicality of every ensemble.   We would like to provide 20 students with the opportunity to study the Classical Guitar in a private lesson situation.  The following video link is an example of what we are doing inthe Travis Guitar ensemble: Flower Duet
