Help a volunteer organisation GROW!

Formed in 2010, the Geek Show is the UK’s largest independent specialist podcast network. We are a voluntary organisation dedicated to providing a platform for people to share their passions across a variety of shows. We need £5,000 to help us replace our equipment and grow, so that we can give more people opportunities to express themselves.

Anyone can be a Geek. From video games to gardening, everyone has something that they’re passionate about. Unfortunately, for many people, that passion is overshadowed by social anxiety and difficulties in talking to others. If left unchecked, this can cause massive harm to their personal development and career prospects.

At the Geek Show, we provide a comfortable environment where people can talk and write about what they love and learn how to express themselves better. It’s a simple method, but one that has already made a huge difference to our volunteers, improving their communication and giving a huge boost to their confidence.

We also offer valuable experience in editing, producing, interviewing and critiquing through working on our shows or website.

We are the only organisation of this kind in the UK and this has made it supremely difficult for us to secure any funding. A fact that is exaggerated due to our very low running costs, which are limited to hosting, rent and equipment repairs. We have bought all our own equipment and any costs we incur comes out of our own pockets. It is becoming increasingly difficult for us to grow, offer more support and opportunities without any sort of financial assistance; we are at the limits of what we can achieve by ourselves.

Much of our equipment is second hand and has seen a lot of use over the years. Things like computers and microphones are showing signs of wear and tear and can often malfunction. We have worked primarily with the unemployed, college and university students, and people with mental and physical health issues. We have also been asked by the local job centre to take on more unemployed people as volunteers, however the lack of funding means we are unable to assistant with this at this time. We primarily need this funding so that we can repair and update our equipment and keep the network running for the foreseeable future.

We also hope to be able to reinforce the infrastructure of our business so that we can begin making more shows and giving more people opportunities to volunteer. We would love to be able to send our volunteers to events across the country giving them solid practical experience (unavailable elsewhere) and a chance to interact with the community at large.

There is huge potential for us to grow. In the 6 years we’ve been active and with virtually no funding, we have built up a network of contacts with leading distributors in the country, giving us access to some of the latest releases in movies, books, manga, animé, video games and merchandise.

If we can keep our network going, then we truly believe that The Geek Show can become an essential pillar of the community. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.
