The Bike-Family Commuters

For years we've dreamed of being a bike-commuting family. We have a deep, burning desire to reduce our family's carbon footprint, curb our dependance on fossil fuels and slow our lives down a little bit. We've done our best to work with what we have, but when our budget is so streamlined that there's nothing extra, it makes seemingly simple things, like maintenance next to impossible, much less making any new, more substantial purchases a reality.

It is our goal to fund a bicycle setup that will transport our family around town throughout the year, rain or shine. We are not interested in financing something because that doesn't really help us in the short or long term, both in reducing our debt load and our ecological impact. So,we have devised a bit of a challenge for ourselves so that we aren't simply filling up space with more bikes and taking advantage of the generosity of others.

We commit to riding these bicycles for every activity in which we would normally use a car, unless we have a medical or other emergency, more than 6 inches of snow or more than 30 miles to travel one way. In addition, we will return to this site once a month for the next year and help someone else fund a dream. 

This is a step toward a family goal we've only dreamed of. Since three jobs have yet to make this dream a reality, we thought we would engage in a bit of alternative economics and solitcite the crowd. Thank you for your support!
