TEMPO NEWS BRIDGING THE GAP

Black Americans spend over one (1) trillion dollars annually in the United States economy. However, we don’t get hardly any of that back into our local communities through our black media. Our dollars are taken for granted because we do not require anything in return. The companies on the local as well as the national level refuse to advertise their products and services in our Black newspapers.

Despite the evolution of social media, according to PEW RESEARCH CENTER on January 6, 2014, “today African Americans trail White Americans by 7% points when it comes to overall Internet use. 87% of whites and 80% blacks have some sort of broadband connection at home. Specifically, older Blacks, as well as those who have not attended college, are significantly less likely to go online or to have broadband service at home compared with whites of a similar demographic profile. Just 45% of black seniors are Internet users, and 30% have broadband at home (among white seniors, 63% go online and 51% are broadband adapters)”. The Black newspaper will always be the crown jewel of the Black Communities. It will always be personal to the communities because it truly tells OUR story inasmuch as our story is not told in America History Books. The truth can’t be stopped. The Black newspaper is as vital to the Black culture as the Florida alligator is to Florida. Alligators have been around for thousands of years and will continue to be.

Since the election of Barrack Obama as the First Black President of the United States of America, there has, and continues to be a backlash by some White Americans against programs and voting rights that affect Blacks. As a former United States Air Force veteran, we were taught and still today are taught, the best way to conquer your enemy is to cut-off communication. The major and local advertisers do not even attempt to support the Black media, without advertisers support they are in effect hampering the Black media in telling our side of the story.

The Black newspapers, more particular TEMPO News that serves Sarasota and Manatee communities is affected by this backlash. As all form of media (i.e., TV, Radio, Magazines, etc.…) are driven by advertisement dollars. America’s mission since slavery has been to keep Blacks under control with the Jim Crow laws of the past, as well as the present New Jim Crow laws exhibited by mass incarceration (i.e., with felonies, etc.…).

In TEMPO News’ continued efforts to be the voice and visibility of the Black community since 1959 under the dream of the late William Fred “Flick” Jackson, we are asking for donations, so we can meaningfully continue to report our (Black Americans) side of the story. Despite the fact the Local and National advertising dollars are not targeted for Black newspapers, the latest backlash is lets make America Great again. We are in a New America. It is already Great. However, because of the mass killings of Black males, the Black communities through out America must step up and support its Black newspapers. So we can continuously report our side of the story with our own dollars when local and national advertisers don’t. TEMPO News primary goal is to improve understanding and appreciation between the races by bridging the social, cultural, economic, and political gaps that now exist, eventually creating a more harmonious environment for all of our citizens to enjoy. We must continue our movement toward equality in America. TEMPO News is asking for donations with this movement and to keep and enhance the Black Print Media. The truth can’t be stopped.
