Hey Everyone! There are some people I cannot figure out how to email directly so I am posting this for all to see.
Although Steven does NOT need a transplant now, he could one day. We want to be prepared and have a lifeline. Please do this not only for Steven but for every child and adult out there that need a transplant NOW or may one day need one!
Visit this website for DKMS:
On this site you can request a swab kit to be sent directly to your home, and you will be added to the National Registry. There's a lot of children out there that need you!
Thank you all again for all of your concern and support!! Smiling has become a lot easier recently and we have all of you to thank for that!!
Hey Everyone! I'm finding out that this website is automatically emailing people in my contacts list on a daily basis. It is not me doing it, and I cant figure out how to stop it. I did send and email to go fund me. Hopefully they can fix the problem. In the mean time...I apologize for the daily emails.
Also, the house is coming out beautiful so far. These workers from NARI are FAST and INCREDIBLE!!!
It's so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Also please, I beg you all, not just for our son, but for every child out there who may need a bone marrow transplant....if you want to get on the registry and potentially save an innocent child's life....please register here to become a bone marrow donor
whats the worst that can happen to you? A little needle in your back? Our son had a needle in his back every week for awhile....if he can do it, you can do it too!!!!
If YOU do it...you will be saving a life!
when our son does it....he is jut trying to survive!
I just wanted to thank you again for all of your love and for your support. You have all been praying for our family and God has heard everyones prayers.
We were so blessed to have strangers come to our home and tell us they are rebuilding it as a gift to our family. There are really no words to describe how incredible this is for our family. It is the light at the end of the tunnel. We have so much hope now, ever more so than before.
The money we were raising was originally going to buy the materials for the home to rebuild it , to refurnish it, and replace many toys our children have lost, but now we no longer have to worry about rebuilding the home, I'm sure you can all imagine how much of a difference that makes for our family.
We are so truly blessed. Thank you for supporting us....strangers who dont even know who we are but still wanting to help....
And for everyone else who does know us, thank you for being there for us. Even to anyone who donated gifts, labor time etc.... Thank you! You have really made this all a dream come true.
Our family will continue to update you on our blessings and on our progess. I want you all to know how incredible a small donation and some love and support can go.
Hi all!! Thank you again for so much support!!! I see people I don't even know donating every day and I cannot even tell you how much of a blessing that is.
I know a lot of you have also emailed me, I will get back to all of you soon. I have no internet when I am at the house working on it, and were usually there from 10am - somtimes 10pm. So hopefully in the next few days I'll have a moment to get back to each and everyone of you!
Thank you really for being so kind and wonderful to our family! We hope to keep you updated when the house is finished so you can really see how much you have helped us!!
The Heckman Family
Hey! Just wanted to let everyone know that Steven DOES NOT need a bone marrow transplant at this time...however...there are many other children with the same type of leukemia as him who have needed transplants which is why we are being proactive and searching for a match...in many cases when a family is told their child needs a transplant it is often too late to find a match. As long as my child has cancer as well as all the other children in the world I will always be looking for donors to make sure each and every child will have a 2nd chance at life by having a match....there has been some publicity that our Steven needs a transplant right now....just wanted to make it clear he does not right now and I pray he never will.
What's left of our shed....that stored everything we had relating to our children since they were born...bins of their clothing, pictures, and tons of memorabilia...including sonogram pictures....a few of the sonogram pictures stored in these bins were found in our neighbors bush
first time seeing our kitchen after the storm
Here you can see the last water line from the last high tide...
This is just a view at the beginning of our block....this was low tide....
Our 6 year old son Steven was diagnosed with Leukemia last summer....and just when our family thought nothing else could get worse, our home was destroyed by hurricane Sandy. We had over 3 feet of water in our home, and a large tree in our backyard fell on our shed and everything inside of it pretty much exploded....everything in that shed was everything I've ever saved from when our 3 children were born.
On Novemeber 21st...our son and our family was supposed to be going to Disney World for his Make-a-wish trip, but we had to cancel the trip because of the situation we have now been put in. There's so many things that we need to do with the house right now to prepare for it being rebuilt, or to find another home.
My husbands mother was kind enough to rent the home to us, but with Steven being diagnosed with Leukemia, me leaving my job to stay home and care for him, and Steve having a hard time finding work to pay the bills, his mother was kind enough to let us stay there rent free until we could get back up on our feet. Before we moved into that home, his mother was trying to sell the home because it was not her primary residence and it was much more than she could even afford, but she allowed us to stay there because we needed help and couldnt afford to live on our own at this time. To add to all this...we did not have flood insurance because the cost of it was way too expensive. Since the home was built, water has NEVER come into the home. This was the first time, and everything we had is now gone.
FEMA is helping people but because it is not our primary home they will not give us financial assistance, and because it is not Steve's mothers primary residence they will not give her the assistance either. We would have to apply for a low interest loan for financial assistance, and we don't have the money to repay that, and neither does his mother.
Because of this situation we are now in, his mother may be forced to sell the property as is. Which means that we will either have to purchase the home from her so we can get the assistance to make the repairs, or we would have to relocate and find another home, which we cannot afford.
We are completely starting over from scratch. We did save some tv's and the childrens video games, but everything else was lost...Our couches/beds/clothes/dressers/all of the childrens toys/kitchen/pots/pans/dishes/appliances.
We have set our goal high in hopes to try to replace everything we may possibly need and have lost.
We're asking for everyone's help, every dollar counts and will help us rebuild our home or to help our family find a new home. It is our wish to be in our "home" in time for Christmas so life can feel somewhat normal again during a very special time. We are asking for all types of donations, whether is $1.00 or more. We would love to accept clothes and furniture as well, but at this time, we have no place to put it. Please help us rebuild our home, so we can live life somewhat normal again. So our children can sleep in their own bed and sit at a table and have a home cooked meal. Maybe even to wake up to a beautiful christmas tree thats ours on christmas morning.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and for all of your support. Once we have some money to start rebuilding, if you can donate your time to help us put new electric in and to put in new insulation and sheetrock etc....that would be greatly appreicated.
