Hey Friends and Family!
On April 13th, my short film "Solo Soy un Super, Mano" (I'm Just a Super, Man) was officially invited to participate in the 2015 Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in France! For the past year I've spent every penny that I could to make a project that all of you could be proud of. And now, with your help, I could take it to "the most prestigious film festival in the world"!
The Film.
Synopsis: After her boxing career back home ends in scandal, a Puerto Rican woman must adjust to her new life as the superintendent of an apartment building in Harlem.
Two years ago I began writing the story of a young woman who struggles to start over after making a life-shattering mistake. In April 2014 I was lucky enough to work with an amazing cast and crew who sacrificed their time and energy to help create a film that is unique, raw and honest. With all of the blood sweat and tears poured into this project I know that taking the finished product everywhere possible would do a service not only to myself, but the 20+ other individuals who worked so hard to make it happen.
Why the Festival is So Important.
Attending the Short Film Corner would give me the chance to invite Film Producers, Festival Programmers, and Distributers to see my film in private screening rooms throughout the length of the festival. With the invite filmmakers are also granted access to red carpet events, Film Industry social events, and the Film Market where many Independent Films are bought for distribution. It goes without saying that this would be an invaluable experience as a Producer, Director, and Writer.
Why you?!!
After a turbulent year of producing this project and spending whatever I had to get the film finished, we are now on the Festival circuit. And it's not cheap. Where it really stings is the fact that the Acceptance letter came 4 weeks before the event! FOUR WEEKS!! That's not nearly enough time for me to recoup from my screening in Rincon, Puerto Rico (The films world premiere on 4/16) that I'm paying for out of pocket. I will but putting up $1,500-2,000 of my own money to pay for food and additional event funds at Cannes. But I need YOUR help to get me on that plane and landed with a roof over my head! Anything helps. Even $2 helps the cause!!
I will be running this GofundMe campaign for the next 3 weeks in hopes that I can have a total of $5,000 (1.5k of my own cash) to fund my trip to Cannes!
