Thank you everyone so much for...

Thank you everyone so much for your generous donation's and support for Steven Lulay. Recently we have found out that Standford Hospital is unable to perform the heart transplant due to him being considered high risk because of his other heart related complications. We are now looking into other facilities such as Texas Heart Institute. We are hoping to be able to find a facility that will be able to take Steven as a patient and give him his much needed heart. Thank you again and please continue to keep Steven in your prayers.

Steven was born in Oct. 1989 with a birth defect called Transposition of the Great Arteries.

Transposition of the great arteries (TGA) is a complex congenital heart defect in which the two large arteries that carry blood out of the heart are connected to the heart abnormally:

The aorta is attached to the right-sided pumping chamber (ventricle), instead of the left.
The pulmonary artery is attached to the left-sided pumping chamber (ventricle), instead of the right

Normally, blood flows in this pattern: body » right side of heart » lungs » left side of heart » back to body. The pulmonary artery carries blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs, and the aorta carries blood from the left side of the heart to the body. In children with TGA, the normal pattern of flow does not exist, and the body doesn't get enough oxygenated blood (click on this link to read more about this)

He had his first heart related surgery at only 3 days old called His first surgery, a Coarctation of the Aorta.
Coarctation of the aorta is a narrowing of the aorta, the main blood vessel carrying oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle of the heart to all of the organs of the body.

When Steven was 16 months old, my parents had to take him to UCLA in southern Los Angeles to have a Fontan procedure done to cap off the pulmonary artery and bypass the whole right side of his heart. When he was 3 1/2 years old he would have another surgery done in Portland at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Over the years Steven has had many heart related surgeries or procedures.

When he was 13, he received a pacemaker. A few years later he was told that he would eventually need a new heart and that time has come. He was placed on the heart transplant list at OHSU a few months ago but was recently taken off the list due to heart related complications. He was then told that OHSU would not be able to do the heart transplant because there was too many heart related risks. They gave him information from 3 different hospitals and not one of them being in Oregon. Recently, Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, CA near San Francisco called to make his appt. to hopefully be put on the list to receive his heart. While on the transplant list, Steven will have to live near the hospital which means, Steven and his mother Ronelle will be moving to California. Ronelle will have to transfer within her job to keep their insurance and income and his father Steve will be staying in Oregon to keep his job and take care of the house and animals. They will be needing extra help with expenses towards traveling, lodging, food, etc. so Steven can finally get his new heart.
