Shawn Needs Help To Get Out Of His House
Shawn Ferrell is a long term survivor of Chronic Pancreatitis, at only 38 years young. He is one of the most inspiring individuals that you may ever meet if you ever have the pleasure. Shawn is an animal lover, music fanatic, traveler, artist, and a great friend, among many other things. Shawn, unfortunately, is also living with a terminal disease. On top of his chronic pancreatitis, brittle diabetes, gastroparesis, ulcers, amputations, vertigo, and nerve damage (neuropathy), he also has a condition called Charcot disease in his foot.
Charcot foot is a condition causing weakening of the bones in the foot. The bones are weakened enough to fracture, and with continued walking, the foot eventually changes shape. Charcot foot is a very serious condition that can lead to severe deformity, disability, and even amputation. Shawn needs to have surgery to help him with this foot, but he's too sick right now to go through surgery. He has at least 60 fractures in his right foot currently.
The doctors want him in a wheelchair anytime he's moving around. He recently was given an electric wheelchair, from Medicare/Medicade, to help him stay off his foot and to get around without pain. The problem is he needs ramps for the wheelchair, so he can get it in and out of his house and car. Shawn had a decent amount of money saved up to help pay for his wheelchair ramps, but his house was broken into and robbed on Wed. Jan 14, 2015. The burglars busted the outside door to his utility room, which gave them access to break down the next door, which had a deadbolt, a chain lock, and a sliding lock.
They destroyed the outside walls of the utility room while breaking down the first door, and they destroyed the door frame on the second door that they kicked in.
They stole Shawn's safe with the money he had saved to help with buying the wheelchair ramps. The safe also contained priceless family memoriabilia that can never be replaced, as well as multiple medications he takes for his conditions. We know that there's no replacing all of these things, but what we can fix are the doors, frames, walls, and locks, and prescriptions. Shawn is fully disabled from his conditions, so his only income is from disability checks from the government. The theft took a hefty toll.
Shawn just needs some help to secure his house so this can never happen again. We're talking about putting in a security system if we can raise enough money to fix everything and still have some left over to put towards a good system. I pray we make this happen for Shawn! He's had enough of a hard time with his health. Let's all try and make things a little easier for him with his transition and help him feel safe in his own home again.
