Here I am, reaching out to you, dear sponsors of the world, in the hopes of pursuing a dream of mine.
The Who
I'm Becky! - An actor/teaching artist/vocal coach/dog walker/customer service extraordinaire.
I graduated from the BFA acting program at Emerson College and have since discovered a deep love for teaching. I am the Education Director for Brown Box Theatre Project, a teacher at Wheelock Family Theatre for ages 6-18, and a teaching assistant at Emerson where I observe and assist in the voice classes as part of the observation component for teacher training. I am passionate about what I do and hope to create in my classes a place for my students where they can work together, connect with each other, express their needs, develop their voices, and feel heard and seen.
The What
Kristin Linklater is one of the most prominent vocal teachers today for actors and any one who hopes to discover and develop their true voice. Her work is about freeing yourself and your voice from the habitual tensions and protections we have developed over our lives. This work opens up the door to the freedom of choice- to know the habit and have a new option for communication. Through this work a new way of being is made possible- a way of accessing the impulses that live deep within us, a way to tap into the present moment and give voice to the truth as we know it.
The Why
So why GoFundMe? Well I don't just want to learn this work, I want to teach it. In order to become a Designated Linklater Teacher, there is a rigorous and quite expensive training process. This includes many hours of private lessons, workshops at the Linklater Center in NYC, observing other teachers, and getting to Scotland to train with Kristin herself at her new center in Orkney. This fund will help with all of these expenses- mostly the hefty bill for the trip to Scotland. It is very important to me to experience this work from the source- to meet Kristin and to train with her.
