Save the Sea Turtles!

Donation protected

Hello there, my name is Amanda Labadie and I am a third year Chemistry student at the University of Windsor. I have been accepted to go on a wildlife conservation trip to Costa Rica for four weeks. My goal and passion on this trip is to save the sea turtles and I could really use your help to do it!

Why do I care?
Five of the seven species of sea turtles in the world nest of the shores of Costa Rica! However, their populations have drastically plunged due to fishing, destruction of habitat, pollution, harvesting of eggs, and poaching of adults for food or shells.

What can I do?
Through the International Student Volunteers program, I have the exciting and heartwarming opportunity to carry out nightly patrols to protect the nests of these endangered sea turtles. I would also be responsible for building and monitoring turtle egg hatcheries, as well as keeping their shores clean and suitable for nesting. Lastly and most importantly, I would be releasing hatchlings safely to the sea!

Will it work?
Over the years, ISV volunteers have SUCCESSFULLY reduced threats to these nesting turtles.
Here is what ISV has done so far for these majestic creatures:
-over 10,000 nests have been protected and monitored
-over 50,000 hours have been spent patrolling almost 120,000 km of beach in order to ensure safe nesting environments
-over 40,000 hours have been spent monitoring hatcheries for data collections, this research is helpful to maximize hatchling numbers and promote survival
-more than 25,000 hatchlings have been released into the sea

Please help me be apart of such a successful and important conservation effort by donating some spare change!

Thank you.
