Sammy is 7 years old and has been fighting neuroblastoma since he was 2.5 years old.
He was originally diagnosed on July 3rd 2012 after several weeks of illness.
Sammy reached NED (no evidence of disease) on November 6th 2013. He has since relapsed twice with the most recent one being discovered on January 14th 2016.
Sam has fought hard over the past year having gone through 4 rounds of chemo and 24 rounds of radiation therapy. After all of that he still has active disease. We decided to try a different chemo that he hadn't had before in hopes of lowering his disease load enough to open up other options for him. Unfortunately it didn't work and he ended up in The PICU with PRES and edema (brain swelling). Sam was in critical condition for several weeks and needed a drain in his skull to relieve the excess pressue.
Unfortunately he has ran out of options and is home on a palliative care plan. All of his disease is boney. He does no currently have any soft tissue masse that are going to put him in immediate danger but with MYCN amplified neuroblastoma that can change quickly. He already tires quickly and uses a wheel chair for rest at school.
After seeing some pictures from his Make-A-Wish trip back in 2014 Sam asked if we could go again.
Our goal is to book a week at Disney's Fort Wilderness campground. We would need to purchase gear, tickets and rent a van. This is a stripped down trip compared to MAW but it's one that I know Sam will greatly enjoy.
Please help Sam relive a bit of that magic he enjoyed so much while he still has the ability to fully enjoy it.
