Salai Clinics

Who are we...

Salai Clinics is a project that's been evolving for the past year and half, so far reaching 17 local communities in Kenya. Salai in the Tamil language can mean both 'road' or 'school,' which perfectly captures the spirit of this project.

So far...

We've used traditional medicine, including acupuncture and homeopathy, to treat people who suffer from diseases for which medication may be unavailable and unaffordable, we have ran training courses so the communities can continue to treat themselves after we leave.

Kenya has one of the highest HIV/AIDs prevalence rates in Africa, so we've worked to alleviate the side effects of anti-retroviral medications and boost patients' immune systems.

We've set up prevention schemes for prominent tropical diseases such as malaria, typhoid and amoeba.

In remote, traditional communities like Samburu, we encountered many women living with trauma from domestic and sexual violence and Female Genital Mutilation, and treated them with homeopathy with high rates of success.

We've worked with traditional midwives to incorporate Chinese medicine techniques into their skillset, to help reduce the high rate of maternal and infant death in places like Lamu County.

Where you come in...

All treatment, training and traditional medicine is provided free to charge to local communities. By setting up clinics, equipping them with supplies and teaching local providers, we are empowering communities to continue the treatment and healing independently.

And we can't do this without your support. It doesn't take much money to improve the lives of so many. For example:

- £25 allowed us to set up a Malaria prevention program for 360 children in Witu, Lamu County.

- £50 allowed us to travel to remote Pate Island and train three local midwives to treat common pregnancy and birth-related complications.

- £250 will allow us to spend a month in remote Kiwayu Island, setting up a full clinic for several hundred local villagers.

Please consider donating, if you can, and we will keep you updated with photos and stories from the communities you've helped.
